Allow me to explain everything you need to know about British Airways at San Francisco International Airport, including the terminal experience, amenities, services, and a few personal anecdotes from my own family's flights in and out of SFO.

First things first: Where is British Airways at SFO?

Concourse A at International Terminal is where British Airways is based. This is a sleek, contemporary section of foreign Terminal, which is home to numerous foreign airlines. Older signage and casual passengers may still refer to this sector as Terminal A. British Airways check-in desks are quite visible if you're driving to follow the signage to International Terminal. They are truly impossible to overlook. After passing through security, you enter one of the most pleasant terminal areas of any airport in the United States.

Checking In: Smooth and Simple (Mostly)

In general, checking in with British Airways is quick and easy, especially if you do it online in advance. However, the personnel is typically helpful and kind, even if you're checking in at the airport. When traveling with children, they have undoubtedly saved me from a few sticky situations. (We'll talk about that later.) In addition to a special line for Executive Club Gold and Oneworld elite members, they have distinct lines for Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class (Club World), and First Class. Therefore, you should have no trouble checking in if you are a frequent traveler or are flying in a premium cabin.

Security: Yes, It’s TSA—But Better Than Most

Although no one enjoys passing through TSA, the International Terminal is, in all honesty, one of the better experiences. The terminal feels roomy, and lines usually move at a decent speed. Better yet, if you have TSA PreCheck, you'll pass quickly. Taking on a trip? I've been there and done it. Despite having two young children who always fall asleep and lose their shoes at the metal detector, my family of four has survived without experiencing any significant tantrums. There is a significant change because the personnel has always been kind.

The Lounge Life: British Airways Lounge at SFO

One of the standout features of flying British Airways is the Terraces Lounge, located near Gate A5. Now, let’s be honest—lounges can vary quite a bit from airport to airport, but British Airways lounge is a solid one.

Here’s what you can expect:

• Comfortable seating with lots of natural light
• A solid food selection, especially in the evening before overnight flights (think pasta, rice dishes, sandwiches, salads)
• A fully stocked bar (yes, the gin and tonics are waiting for you)
• Wi-Fi, workspaces, and showers if you need to freshen up

If you’re flying in First Class, you’ll also get access to a more exclusive section of the lounge. But even in the main area, the lounge is a relaxing spot to recharge before your flight. Side note: One of my favorite lounge memories is sitting by the big windows with my daughter, watching the planes come and go. We played “guess the airline” while sipping hot chocolate (her) and espresso (me). Travel magic, right there.

The Terminal Itself: Not Bad at All

Even if you don’t have lounge access, the International Terminal A is pretty nice. There’s ample seating, clean bathrooms (a surprisingly big deal when traveling with family), and decent dining options, including:
